Geotechnical Laboratory

The laboratory specializes in measurement of geomechanical properties (e.g., compressibility, shear strength, permeability) on sediments and rocks. The laboratory contains a constant-rate-of-strain consolidation system, a stress path triaxial system, and a permeameter system (all by GEOTAC) for measurements up to 5 MPa. Higher stress (up to 60 MPa) triaxial, consolidation, and permeability experiments can be completed by our Instron 50 kip load frame with (donated by ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company) with MTS Flextest controllers.
